Ireland drew 1-1 with Poland before 5,000 spectataors in Tolka Park.
Having fallen behind to a third minute goal Ireland galvanised themselves to claim a draw courtesy of a 63rd minute penalty by Ashley Grimes following a free kick taken by Kevin O Callaghan went into the Polish box.
Referee Paddy Mulhall deemed that a Polish defender had shoved John Anderson in the box after he had moved up for the set piece.
Ireland were unlucky not to score afater 16 minutes when the diminutive Hayes failed after good work by Devine and Gaffney.
With five minutes remaining Devine made a telling run up the wing and hsi cross was met by Chandler whose header aws easily saved by Polish keeper Bolesta. |
