Sean McCaffrey’s Irish U19 side continue their preparation for the UEFA Championship, elite qualifying phase with a double international friendly in Slovakia this week. In Tuesday's encounter, Blackburn’s Aaron Doran converted a penalty after 30 minutes to cancel out Martin Guldan’s early opener. The two sides will meet again in Bratislava on Thursday.
The Republic of Ireland will play Belgium, Switzerland and Sweden for a place in the finals of the 2008/’09 UEFA U19 Championship in the Ukraine in the Summer of 2009.
Ireland will travel to Belgium for the qualifying tournament which will be held from June 5th – 10th 2009. The four teams will contest for just one available place at the finals – an eight nations tournament in Ukraine.
