The Republic of Ireland Under 16 side have drawn 1-1 against Switzerland in a high intensity match in Switzerland last night.
Vincent Butler’s men were under pressure from the very start when goalkeeper, Kevin O’Brien was forced to make a number of early saves including goal-bound header when he saved at point blank range.
As Switzerland produced a number of chances, the Irish were tactically supreme, James O’ Brien and 13 year old Conor Clifford were winning midfield battles and attacking on the break.
The Irish only had to wait for 25 minutes to break the deadlock with a strike from Craig Duggan.
Ireland continued to dominate the game after half time and Conor Clifford was unlucky not to double the Irish lead when his header was brilliantly saved by the Switzerland keeper.
Switzerland were back on level terms when Niall McArdle conceded a penalty after 70 minutes.
Vincent Butler said that he was delighted with the performance of all his players and were unlucky not to have won the game, |
