Switzerland 1 - 1 Ireland
The Republic of Ireland Under 16 side, have been held to a draw in Switzerland for the 2nd time this week.
Vincent Butler’s side attacked Switzerland straight from the kick-off with Crumlin United’s Conor Clifford breaking down the wing and crossing for Ian Daly who applied a neat header to put the Irish ahead with only 20 seconds on the clock.
Switzerland dominated for large periods of the first half but failed to force an equaliser, thanks to the resilient Kieron Thorp in the Irish goal who made a number of impressive saves.
The 2nd half began frantically with both teams playing some great football. Irelands defence was eventually breached 3 minutes after half time when a swift Switzerland attack yielded an equaliser. Both sides pushed for a winner in the closing stages of the game but were forced to settle for a draw in the finish.
Republic of Ireland Manager, Vincent Butler said that he was extremely happy with the result and the performance of his players in both games against a very strong Switzerland side. |
