Match report
A goal in each half did the damage as Northern Ireland won the first of two matches they played against the Republic at Oriel Park.

Republic Manager Vincent Butler used this encounter to look at his fringe players in action and they didn't disappoint with a good showing against a well-organised Northern Ireland outfit.

Chances fell to each side during the match and the frequent involvement of wingers from both teams led to an open and free-flowing contest.

Glentoran striker Ryan Thompson gave the winners the lead in the first-half and substitute Declan Bunting wrapped up the victory with a second goal 18 minutes after the half-time break.

Gary Frewen came closest to scoring for the Republic in the closing stages but his spectacular overhead kick from ten yards out narrowly missed the target.
