Match report | Preview
Second-half goals from Will Ferry , Troy Parrott and Adam Idah were enough to claim the three points in a hard-fought encounter.

Bosnia and Herzegovina started the brighter, but it was Ireland who have the best chances in an entertaining opening period.

Striker Adam Idah's shot from close range tested Adnan Kanuric in the opening 15-minutes, but the goalkeeper did excellently to palm his shot over the bar.

Idah went close twice more before the break, but both efforts went just wide.

Bosnia and Herzegovina's best effort of the opening period came from Milan Savic, briefly troubling Brian Maher in the Irish net.

It was Bosnia and Herzegovina who started the brighter after the break, but Ireland took the lead through Will Ferry. The winger combined well with Conor Coventry, and his shot beat Kanuric from close range.

Ireland's lead doubled ten-minutes later. Jack James was fouled in the box, and despite the best protests of Enio Zilic, Slovakian referee Filip Glova pointed to the spot. Troy Parrott stepped up and delicately chipped the ball down the middle to give Tom Mohan's side a 2-0 lead.

Adam Idah made it 3-0 in the 74th-minute. The striker scored from inside the box, cooly slotting past Kanuric.

Minutes later, substitute Mateo Bozic pulled one back for Bosnia and Herzegovina, as his deflected free-kick beat Maher.

Despite the late goal, Ireland held out to record a deserved 3-1 win.

Speaking after the game, Head Coach Tom Mohan said it was crucial to start the Qualifying Round with three points.

"It was a very important win. Bosnia and Herzegovina proved to be very tough opponents. They had us under pressure early on, but once we seen that out, we got a grip of the game.

"There was some great finishes from our players. The goals came at important times. Their goal left things edgy in the final minutes, but we were well deserving of the win."

Mohan's side return to action on Saturday afternoon. They play the Faroe Islands in Longford. Kick-off is at 3pm.
