Match report
REP OF IRELAND U16B 2 BELGIUM U16B 2
Kevin Loughran 42 Thibault Duval 51
Darragh Walsh 50 Simon Bracke 65

The Republic of Ireland Under-16 B were pegged back tonight at Turners Cross after surging into two goal lead in the second half.

Irelands Kevin Loughran and Darragh Walsh each scored early in the second half only for the visitors to level with goals from Thibault Duval and Simon Bracke.

Early in the game, Steven McCarthy was unable to direct his header on goal after Darragh Walsh set him up with the cross and the provider went close on 18 minutes with a shot that veered just past the near post.

Ireland continued to press and Loughran of Monaghan United drew a top-class save from Tharauniatis on twenty minutes.

Left winger Loughran, with first team experience behind him at the Airtricity League, did grab his deserved goal shortly after the restart when he seized upon hesitant defending and buried a low diagonal shot across substitute goalkeeper Lowik Steinmetz and into the far corner.

The Boys in Green underlined their supremacy with a second goal on 50 minutes. Darren Murphy and Conor McDonald were involved in the build-up on the right and when the ball broke for Darragh Walsh thirty yards out, the Shelbourne striker unleashed an unstoppable drive which flew into the net off the post.

There was barely time to settle when Belgium hit back. Deriemaecker raided down the right flank straight from the kick-off and picked out the unmarked Thibault Duval who nodded home from six yards.

The comeback gained momentum and it was no surprise when the imposing Simon Bracke slipped in to stab home the equaliser on 65 minutes.

Belgium should have completed the recovery with a third five minutes later yet captain Pieter Gerkens failed to convert a teasing delivery from the right.
