Republic of Ireland B 0-1 Belgium B Peter Gerkens 80
A last-minute goal from team captain and midfielder Peter Gerkens of RC Gent gave the visitors Belgium a deserved win in this B international double header at Blarney this afternoon.
The Belgians had been applying all the pressure in the last ten minutes and got their reward with a last-gasp winner as Gerkens bundled the ball into the net in a goalmouth scramble.
Minutes earlier, Gerkens had a great header taken off-the-line by full-back Conor Whittle and then Stephen Morris did exceptionally well to smother substitute Thomas Grillets effort in a one-on-one with three minutes to go.
Colin O Briens Irish side were the physically stronger unit and in a scoreless first half they squandered chances with Andy O Connor, Eoghan O Connell and Alan O Sullivan, three times, all off target.
