Match report
The Republic of Ireland Under 19 Women’s side played out a 1-1 draw away to Finland in an International friendly match this afternoon.

Finland took the lead against the run of play after 30 minutes but the Irish got back into match in the 65th minute when Jennifer Critchley from the Lifford Ladies club in County Clare equalised.

Ireland produced a determined second half performance that could have yielded more goals. Striker Aine O'Gorman, who has played for Ireland at senior level, was unlucky not to score with a couple of shots in the closing stages of the match.

Ireland will play another friendly match against Finland on Thursday as these games are preparation for the UEFA first qualifying phase which will be played later this month. The Republic are in Group Ten, alongside Bulgaria, Italy and Slovakia with the top two nations advancing to next year's Elite phase.

Manager Sue Ronan was delighted with the overall display of her team: "This was the first match for most of the players at this level and they performed well."

She added, "Only five of the squad have previous experience at this age-group and I'm glad that they played so well today against a strong Finland team."

"We had some opportunities to win the game, having dominated the second half. Finland, however, made plenty of openings themselves but it would have been a shame for us to lose."
