Under-19 UEFA Women's Championship first phase qualifier
Republic of Ireland 5-1 Israel
Claire Shine 13 Karina Tsvetkov 65

The Republic of Ireland Women's Under-19 team recorded their second successive victory at the UEFA Championship first phase qualifiers in Portugal today (Monday) to confirm their place into the elite phase.

Saturday's 1-0 victory over mini-group hosts Portugal meant another three points for Dave Connell's side against Israel this evening would secure them one of the two qualifying positions from the pool with Thursday's concluding fixture against Hungary still to play.

It took only 13 minutes for Ireland to pierce the defensive shield Israel put up in an attempt to curb their opponents' attack.

Douglas Hall striker Claire Shine had too much trickery for her marker in cutting from right and buried a low shot into the far corner for the opener.

Eight minutes later, the lead was doubled. Captain Dora Gorman arrived on cue inside the box to turn the ball home after some neat build-up play.

The onslaught continued as Ireland struck a third on 38 minutes when Siobhan Killeen raced all the way from her own half, exchanged passes with Shine, before chipping the ball over the goalkeeper.

On 65 minutes, the Irish defence was breached for first time during the mini-group through Karina Tsvetkov. Ireland pushed on for more goals, though, and Raheny United winger Killeen grabbed her second nine minutes from full-time with a low angled from the edge of the box.

Wexford's Rianna Jarrett added Ireland's fifth in stoppage time, shortly after she was denied a goal by the post.

Republic of Ireland Head Coach Dave Connell paid tribute his team for achieving such a resounding result amid temperatures hitting 30 degrees Celsius.

He said: "It's nice to be qualified at this stage with one game remaining. We started brightly and, although Israel played with ten players behind the ball for virtually the entire game, the girls created plenty of chances and were really coasting by half-time.

"There was a rare lapse in conceding a goal but they bounced back and scored two more goals."

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND: Maloney (Reading); Murphy (Wilton United) Byrne (Bealnamulla), Glesson (Tramore), Farmer (Wilton United); Grant (Kilmacrennan Celtic), Gorman (Salthill Devon), Hansbury (Strand Celtic), Killeen (Raheny United); Gilroy (Killala), Shine (Douglas Hall).
Subs: O'Brien (Tramore) for Byrne (52 mins), Roche (Watford) for Grant (61 mins), Jarrett (Wexford) for Gilroy (79 mins).
