Republic of Ireland 4 (Flood 3, Byrne)
Ireland for the second successive game scored four goals against an unlucky Belgium side.
The game played in Dalymount Park before 15,000 saw Belgium denied by the excellence of the Irish keeper Tom Farquharson
Belgium should have enjoyed an interval lead of at least a couple of goals.
Belgium concentrated on passing and repassing allowing the Irish defence the opportunity of recovering and saving the disaster.
Two minutes from the interval Byrne and Flood engaged in a combined move that ended in the latter scoring from an almost prone position on the right of the goal.
The second goal occurred after 28 minutes of the second half - as Belgium paid the penalty for their first half exertions- the second goal was the result of a long punt by Farquharson and headed on by Bermingham to see Byrne outpaced the home defence and slot past the advancing Somers in the Belgium goal.
Byrne had made up for his miss – a sitter – shortly before. Flood put through by O’Brien scored a third and Flood complete his hat trick when Bermingham placed him for a shot with Somers being helpless on both occasions.
Farquharson performed heroics especially in the first half with Maguire and Burke supplementing his efforts while O’Brien was a clever and capable centre half.
Flood was easily the best forward on view with Bermingham displaying some fine wing play.
