Match report | Preview
The Republic of Ireland Women's Under-19s wasted little time in making the most of the first of two international friendly games against Russia by recording a 2-0 victory.
7th Mar 2020

Kelly Brady scored the goals - one in each half - as Dave Connell's side recorded an impressive display in the Spanish sunshine and showed how dangerous they can be in attack.

The clock had not yet hit the half hour mark when Brady unleashed a shot from the left side that whistled into the top right-hand corner of the Russian net to give Ireland the lead.

Russia almost got one bacl before the interval when striker Diana Pamen found herself in a good position, but she headed the chance over the crossbar.

The second half started in lively fashion with substitute Maria Kozik firing just wide for Russia before Brady got her second goal of the day; smashing in an uncontested drop ball.

Such was the severity of the heat, a water break needed to be implemented but Ireland never tired and were clever in possession, while also strong in defensive situations.

The two teams will face off again next week as Connell looks to use these games as preparation for next month's UEFA Elite Round qualifiers in Czech Republic.
